UW-Madison’s research ranking dropped from fourth to sixth over the past year. Although the university is still considered a powerhouse, expending roughly $1.1 billion annually across all fields of research, the university has experienced challenges related to a lack of investment from the state.
The lack of state investments lead to some faculty and staff members looking for jobs in states where funding is continuing to grow and thrive. UW-Madison is trying to maintain its top-notch ranking but the competition is tough, especially when competing with heavily-funded universities across the nation.
